Captain Rumsey: Reporting for Booty

A pirate themed 2D platformer

About the Game

This project was an assignment 3 for the Code Coven Bootcamp. The assignment was to create a 2D project. I chose a pirate theme and found many free assets online and created my own. I would like to polish it up some more in the future.

During this project, I learned about implementing sprites, animations, and sound FX to create a truly immersive level.

All game logic was scripted using C# and Visual Studio Code.

Created with C# and Unity

About the Game

Have you ever wondered what life looks like from

Pacman's point of view?

Well ponder no further... I created this game from a place of both love and hatred for our little pie shaped friend. I woke up one day feeling inspired to show the world what it looks like to see the world from his eyes and it's nothing short of terrifying...

During this project, I learned about creating 3d models (ghosts were created in Unity), Coroutines and IEnumerators, and score tracking.

All game logic was scripted using C# and Visual Studio Code.

Sci-Fi Puzzle FPS

A first person shooter and puzzle demo

About the Game

Picture this... You are thrown into a market with a grumpy shark man, and negligent "froot" vendor, and a robot that serves a questionable cup of joe.

You are given a mission... Acquire a Weapon.

Navigate your way through this mini puzzle demo. Walk around and interact with the people to figure out what to do.

During this project, I learned about creating missions, making a FPS camera, adding destructible items, and 3d colliders to interact with.

All game logic was scripted using C# and Visual Studio Code.

Created with C# and Unity

About the Game

Tired of mansplaining and manspreading? Tired of the system that drags every non cis-white-male individual down? We can only do so much to tear down this shitty system, sometimes we just need to let off some steam. This whack-a-mole style game may not fix our society, but it might help you feel better for a moment. The replacement for the mole was carefully chosen. Who embodies the Patriarchy more than the twice impeached Donald Trump?

Hi, I'm Mel!

I have been a gamer since I was five.

I have busted crates on Crash Bandicoot, tanked the biggest bosses in many rpgs, and slain countless dragons on Skyrim, but it never occurred to me that I could turn this passion into a career.

To this point I have had an eclectic work history from which I have learned some very valuable skills.

As a machine operator, I learned how to be an excellent problem solver and troubleshooter.

As a manufacturer and a receptionist, I have learned how to manage my time efficiently to maximize productivity, and the value of organization.

As a manager, I learned soft-skills like communicating effectively with my team and clients.

As a photographer, I learned that I am extremely adaptable and a learning enthusiast that loves to apply new skills.

As a python and data analysis student mentor I have learned how to debug and offer feedback for improving others’ code, writing my own programs, providing support for imposter syndrome, and maximizing online learning success.

I have learned that no matter what job I am doing, I give it my all and I take pride in my work.

I used to believe that all of these skills were unrelated, but have since discovered that they combine synergistically to give me the ability to excel as a programmer. I have found that learning how games work from the inside, building the behaviors using code, fixing the errors, succeeding and having a finished game that people enjoy is where my heart is.

I have finally discovered that programming games is where my greatest passion and greatest talent intersect. I am hopeful and excited to join your team and continue to grow into the game developer that the little five year old playing games would admire.
